Yesterday LG V20 full specifications was posted here and today the official announcement for the smartphone has been made
LG V20 has finally been launched and it’s I looking like one of the most impressive flagships of the year.
South Korean manufacturer LG lifted the veils in San Francisco and gave us all the details on what the LG V20 will be capable of. Read below for the details
LG V20 price and release date
After weeks of anticipation, what we think is one of the best phones of the year was revealed at an event located at Pier 27 at the Embarcadero in San Francisco. Regarding the release date, LG said it would go on sale in South Korea this month before also going on sale in other regions shortly afterwards.
LG hasn’t revealed the price just yet, but once we once what it is we’ll be sure to update you. We did hear that it would cost around $650, and this was around what the LG V10 cost. So it’s a good baseline price to work from. We’ll keep an eye out for details released in future.
After running a brief statement published on its site, the South Korean manufacturer unveiled the V20. The invitation posted with the announcement shows a pop-up booklet with the words ‘Play More’ scribbled over the top. This hinted that the V20 would be the most versatile hardware offering from LG – an even more important device than the G5.
With updates to Marshmallow creeping out slowly since it was released last year, the immediate availability of the latest Android version on a new device would come as welcome news to many potential LG customers. Along with flagship specs, LG added that the V20 would “set new standards” among the cohort of premium phones with “more expanded multimedia capabilities”.
News of the production of an LG V20 first broke on South Korean website ET News, where details of the upcoming device were posted. Interestingly, a September launch has put it directly into competitive iPhone 7 territory. However, bringing a flagship release date forward is nothing new, with Samsung shifting the upcoming Galaxy Note 7 launch a couple of weeks earlier to August 2.
LG V20 specs
The LG V20 boats some impressive specs. It has a 5.7 inch HD IPS Quantum display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, giving a pixel density of 513 ppi. The secondary display above it is a IPS Quantum display with a resolution of 160 x 1040 pixels and the same density of 513 ppi. Power-wise, the V20 has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 along with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. There is also microSD support for those of you who want to expand memory.
The cameras are a pretty good setup. The main camera has a dual lens setup, with one 16 MP sensor that comes with an aperture of f/1.8, optical stabilisation and hybrid autofocus. The other has an 8 MP sensor with an aperture of f/2.4. We’ll give you all the details about it once we give it a thorough test.
The front camera looks decent, with a 5 MP sensor packing an aperture of f/1.9. This lens is also wide angle, making it easier to capture all the action of selfies.
The battery is smaller than what the rumours suggested it would be. But in saying that, it’s still a good size at 3,200 mAh. One thing that does make this battery stand out from the pack is that it’s also removable. Another perk of this setup is that comes with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.
LG V20 software
In what is a coup for LG, the V20 is the first phone to run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. This is a good sign that LG is working on new Android updates sooner and faster. Hopefully, this leads to more devices getting the Nougat update faster than they did Marshmallow.
We heard directly from LG that the V20 would run Nougat, in a statement published on its site (linked in the ‘price and release date’ section), and Google has weighed in to confirm the news as well. On the same day that Nougat was released for Nexus devices, Google posted an image of the LG V20 on its Nougat page. It doesn’t say much but confirmed that the V20 will be the first new smartphone to run Nougat.
Once we’ve got our hands on it, we’ll give you a full run-down of what Nougat is like on the V20. It’s sure to be impressive.
